What even is sustainable dentistry?
We have called ourselves a sustainable dentist for a while now, but it might be time to talk about what that actually means.
There are many ways to look at sustainability, but for us it has one main purpose:
Sustainability means meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
That impacts so many of the decisions we make as a business.
What is sustainable dentistry?
– LONGEVITY FOR PATIENTS
It affects the way we treat patients. For us, the best result for our patients is to teach our patients how to properly care for their mouth and gums. Regular dental hygiene cleanings prevent more invasive procedures down the road. And since oral health is connected to overall health, we can actual do the superheroic act of extending peoples’ lives.
– “GREEN” OPERATING PRACTICES
It affects how we operate the business. This can mean using paperless charting, digital-rays, using non-chlorinated cleaning lines, and more. We’ll get more into this in the coming days, but you can always be better at being a “green business” and this is something we strive to do.
– COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
It affects our engagement with the community. We live in this town, our kids go here, we run into our patients all the time. We support organizations that have aligned values, and we buy locally whenever possible, for the business and for ourselves. We support events that foster healthy family life. We get the word out about by teaching children how to prevent cavities in schools and at events. We want this place to be around in 30 years and we want you and your family to be here, too.
